1st Grade: A Year of Growing Skills and New Discoveries
First grade is a year of growing independence, confidence, and curiosity. Students build on the foundation they developed in kindergarten as they strengthen their reading, writing, and math skills and begin exploring new ideas in science, history, and the world around them. Through engaging learning experiences and meaningful opportunities to work with others, students grow as learners and discover new ways to make sense of their world.

First grade is about building confidence and helping students become increasingly independent learners. Every experience—from strengthening reading and math skills to exploring science, history, and their communities—helps students develop the knowledge, curiosity, and problem-solving skills they need for the next step in their learning journey.
English Language Arts: Students strengthen reading and writing skills through phonics, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and engaging literature while building fluency and comprehension.
Math: Students develop confidence in addition, subtraction, place value, geometry, measurement, and problem-solving as they build strong mathematical reasoning skills.
Science: Students explore plants, animals, weather, sound, and light through hands-on investigations that encourage curiosity and scientific inquiry.
Social Studies: Students learn about communities, maps, citizenship, and cooperation while gaining a deeper understanding of how people live and work together.
